ChatGPT’s Latest Agent from OpenAI Can Take Full Control of Your PC and Get Things Done for You
OpenAI is stepping into one of AI’s fastest-growing trends: AI agents — smart tools that go beyond chatbots to handle complex, multi-step tasks. This week, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Agent, designed to complete work for you using its own virtual computer.
ChatGPT Agent runs on a brand-new AI model trained to handle more complicated tasks across multiple tools — including browsers, terminals, and custom user data. It combines the abilities of OpenAI’s earlier tools, Operator and Deep Research, into one unified system.
OpenAI formed a specialized team of 20-35 people to develop the agent, and during the demo, they showed practical examples: planning date nights, organizing research reports, and even automating small weekly chores like parking requests.
Unlike previous tools, ChatGPT Agent has access to a full computer environment, not just a browser, allowing it to perform more advanced tasks. While it may take some time to complete certain jobs, OpenAI says the goal is to handle tasks in the background, saving users significant time overall.
Safety remains a priority: ChatGPT Agent asks for permission before taking major actions like bookings or emails and restricts high-risk categories like financial transactions.
The tool is rolling out now to Pro, Plus, and Team users, with Enterprise and Education versions coming soon. With the AI agent race heating up — and companies like Amazon, Google, and Klarna investing heavily — OpenAI’s ChatGPT Agent aims to be the next big leap toward AI-powered personal assistants.
